This barn complex began sometime at the end of the 18th century with the part of the barn you see in this painting at the far left. That section is a 28' x 34' English style barn, built by Joseph Smith, one of the original proprietors of Plainfield, NH. At one point the farm covered over 600 acres, housing a large dairy operation, growing potatoes , selling lumber from a small saw mill and raising thousands of chickens. Today this part of the barn is the only remaining structure of the once large farming complex.
This painting is executed in oils on plaster on canvas, creating a very aged appearance.
Since establishing her business, Canvasworks Designs, in 1992, Lisa has been creating paintings for homes throughout the US, Canada and beyond, with over 1500 pieces now in private collections, museums, shops and galleries. Working from a studio in a 1790s home, at the base of a mountain in a really old, small town in Vermont, her art reflects a time gone by. Peaceful colors, pastoral scenes and quiet images of farm life and equine themes prevail and a certain folk art feel adds a touch of whimsy and simplicity to her work.
